MEET THE TEAM

Dr. Rebecca Zettler has been a passionate advocate for animal health since childhood, a journey that began with her enrollment in the University of Manitoba's Pre-Veterinary program in 2001. In 2004, she was admitted to the Western College of Veterinary Medicine, where she earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree in 2008. One of the highlights of her veterinary education was being selected as one of only ten students for a transformative month-long rotation in Africa during her final year. After graduating, Dr. Zettler honed her skills in mixed practice from 2008 to 2011 before dedicating three years to small animal shelter medicine at the Winnipeg Humane Society. In 2015, she launched her own mobile clinic, Zettler Veterinary Services, where she provides essential veterinary care to private clients and multiple rescue groups. Her focus is on companion animals, and she finds great fulfillment in collaborating with various rescue organizations to offer surgical and medical care at remote spay/neuter clinics. Inspired by her high school anatomy teacher, Mr. Wright, Dr. Zettler pursued her dream of becoming a veterinarian despite initial uncertainties. She believes that every case, pet, and client is unique, taking the time to evaluate each situation thoroughly to establish the best care protocols tailored to individual needs. Beyond her practice, Dr. Zettler is deeply committed to her community in Treherne. As the co-race director for the Treherne Marathon, an assistant head leader for the Treherne 4-H Beef Club, and the Vice-President of the Treherne Agriculture Society, she actively contributes to the community's growth and development, believing that volunteering is vital for a thriving society. When she’s not caring for animals or involved in community activities, Dr. Zettler enjoys spending quality time with her husband and two children, as well as pursuing her love for running and long-distance horse riding. Notably, in 2016, she partnered with Save a Dog Network Rescue to host a remarkable remote spay/neuter clinic at her facility, resulting in over 500 animals receiving much-needed care in what she fondly calls a "spay extravaganza weekend!" Dr. Rebecca Zettler is also a proud pet owner, sharing her home with two rescue dogs, one rescue cat, and four horses. Her dedication to animal welfare and community service makes her a valued member of our veterinary team.

Dr. North grew up on a farm near Elie, Manitoba, where her love for animals began. She earned her BSc in Brandon and graduated from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in 2006. After starting in mixed animal practice in Beausejour, she focused her career on small animal medicine and surgery. In 2015, she opened her own clinic in Carberry. Her veterinary journey has included experiences in South Africa with Global Vets, wildlife work in Uganda, and a foal NICU externship in Pennsylvania and remote Manitoba vet services with the Winnipeg Humane Society. Dr. North lives near Austin, MB, with her husband, four children, and a hodge podge pet family of cats, dogs, pig, goats and chickens. She enjoys sports, readings, outdoor activities and side by side tours with her family.

Meet Amanda! Born and raised in Portage, Amanda has always had a passion for animals—there’s never been a time in her life without a cat, dog, or rabbit by her side. It was a natural choice for her to pursue a career as a vet tech, and she graduated from the Animal Health Technology program at Red River College in 2006 (yes, she’s a bit of a veteran in the field!). Amanda began her journey at the Portage Veterinary Hospital the same year and dedicated 18 amazing years there until its closure at the end of 2024. During that time, she had the privilege of working with reputable breeders across Manitoba and beyond, helping to bring new life into the world and preserve breed standards. Equally rewarding was her involvement with local rescue groups and low-income families through low-cost spay days. Whether it was a midnight c-section, spay, or foreign body removal, every surgery was an adventure! She has been fortunate to work alongside incredible mentors like Dr. Dunbar and Dr. Zettler, gaining invaluable experience and forming lifelong friendships with clients and coworkers. Although it was tough to say goodbye to the Portage Vet Hospital, Amanda is excited to announce that she has joined Dr. Zettler at Zettler Veterinary Services in Treherne, MB. The community has welcomed her with open arms, and she looks forward to splitting her time between both clinics in the New Year! Outside of work, Amanda loves spending time with family and friends, catching Blue Bombers games, enjoying country music concerts, and indulging in video and board games. She also volunteers at community events and helps transport pets, food, and medication for loyal clients from Portage who can’t make the drive to Treherne. Meet Melissa! Graduated from Red River College in 2021 as a Registered Veterinary Technologist (RVT), she quickly passed her VTNE and earned her Fear Free certification in the same year. With 10 years of experience in veterinary clinics, including the Portage Veterinary Hospital (2015-2024) and the Carberry Small Animal Veterinary Clinic (2025), she specializes in anesthesia and surgery. Growing up where her mom worked at a vet clinic inspired Melissa to pursue a career in animal care. Outside of work, she enjoys life on an acreage near Macdonald with her boyfriend and their two dogs: Nelly, a five-year-old Great Dane, and Harley, a four-year-old Aussie mix. In her free time, she loves watching hockey, spending time with family and friends, and practicing traditional Aboriginal beadwork.

Meet Jenny! Born and raised in Portage, Jenny has always had a heart for animals. As a kid, she couldn’t resist helping any lost or injured creature, from frogs to birds. With three beloved dogs—Cardi the deaf Great Dane, Huey the Staffy mix, and MJ the Chihuahua mix—she’s a true animal lover at heart. For 14 years, she worked as a receptionist at the Portage Vet Hospital, always ready to lend a hand, whether it was holding pets or cleaning kennels. One of her favorite career highlights? Working alongside her daughter Melissa at the vet clinic! They’re excited to team up again at Prairie Vet Clinic. Now living on an acreage just outside Portage with her husband Dwayne, Jenny has three kids—Melissa, Sam, and Nick—and cherishes her family time. When she’s not working, you can find her cheering on Nick at hockey games or enjoying family gatherings and vacations. Life is all about family and hockey for Jenny!

Meet Kennedy! Growing up on a rural farm in Westbourne, animals have always been a big part of Kennedy's life. She’s the proud fur mama to a rescue Irish Wolfhound named Patrick, a rescue Shepherd Retriever mix, Nevaeh, who serves as a therapy dog with the Saint John Ambulance therapy dog programs for both adults and children, and a rescue cat named Treah. With 10 years of grooming experience and nearly 9 years of running her own business, Kennedy is excited to take on the role of clinic manager. She lives in MacGregor with her husband and their energetic two-year-old son. One of her career highlights includes a month-long rescue program in Thailand in 2015, where she volunteered with a rescue dog initiative, helping to bring injured and malnourished street dogs back to shelters. As a dedicated volunteer and therapy dog evaluator for Saint John Ambulance, some of her favorite opportunities have been visiting the Ronald McDonald House, spreading joy and comfort to families in need. She’s also proud to have helped raise funds and create an off-leash dog park in MacGregor, enhancing the community for our furry friends! Kennedy founded the Entrepreneur Mental Health Association, a non-profit organization with members across Canada and even some in the United States. It’s a cause she’s passionate about, advocating for mental wellness in the entrepreneurial community. As a certified groomer with the Canadian Professional Pet Stylist Association (CPPS), Kennedy is committed to providing top-notch care for all animals. In her downtime, you can find her disconnecting and enjoying quality time with her husband and son, often playing mini sticks.

Meet Whitley! Whitley grew up on a farm in Carberry, where her lifelong love for animals first began. Her family raised chickens and cattle, and she spent much of her childhood surrounded by animals of all kinds. Outside of work, Whitley has always been active, she grew up playing multiple sports and still enjoys spending her free time on the volleyball court or softball field. Whitley is married to Shane, and together they have a busy household that includes their two year old son, four cats, Murphy (9), JP and Wheeler (7), and Sophie (6) and their dog Brynn (4). Over the years, Whitley and Shane have also fostered several dogs and been involved in various rescue efforts. Whitley has been part of the Carberry clinic team and has joined us at Prairie Vet part time. She has a genuine passion for learning as much as she can about every aspect of veterinary care. Her favorite part of the job is patient care, you can often find her chatting with patients and their owners in the waiting room or taking a few extra moments to make pets feel comfortable during their visits.
